Qualcomm has announced that the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform is now open for all developers worldwide.
Snapdragon Spaces is an open, cross-device platform and ecosystem that is designed to bring developers’ ideas to life and revolutionise the possibilities of augmented reality (AR).
In November 2021, the US-based chipmaker unveiled the developer platform and earlier this year, the company announced its partnership with game developer Square Enix. This partnership allowed both companies to work on new extended reality (XR) experiences through the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform.
Snapdragon Spaces hardware development kit
Developers can also buy a hardware development kit along with downloading Snapdragon Spaces to begin creating AR experiences on commercial hardware. These efforts indicate Qualcomm’s commitment to boosting XR innovations. Developers on downloading the Snapdragon Spaces platform will be allowed to access the foundational tools needed to create 3D applications for AR glasses from scratch. It will also add AR features to existing 2D Android smartphone applications and more.
What is the Snapdragon Metaverse Fund?
The company has also recently launched the Snapdragon Metaverse Fund. Qualcomm has announced an investment of up to $100 million in this fund that will help developers and companies to innovate and build immersive experiences with AR, mixed reality and VR.
